Safety Engineer

Job Summary:

Ensures compliance with health and safety laws across all company levels and locations. Responsible for developing and establishing safety policies that will create and maintain a safe workplace.

Identifies opportunities for improving safety conditions and executes various safety programs. The ability to communicate guidelines to a multidisciplinary workforce is essential. Supports all DEUTZ Corporation North America locations to improve safety.

Essential Functions:

  • Quickly identifies and institutes prompt resolution to safety hazards
  • Communicates guidelines for safety practices across all levels and locations of the Company
  • Ensures the Company meets all legal expectations according to regulatory standards
  • Actively supports EPA, Occupational Health and Safety guidelines
  • Actively supports Company Safety policies. Modifies, reviews, develops and enforces policies to maintain a culture of workplace health and safety and meet standards of OSHA guidelines.
  • Evaluates practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to regulatory standards
  • Develops and conducts training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
  • Monitors compliance to policies and OSHA regulations by inspecting workers and operations
  • Inspects equipment and machinery to observe potentially unsafe conditions
  • Conduct and/or support accident/incident investigations to discover root causes
  • Recommend and/or drive implementation of solutions to safety issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures.
  • Drives work culture which enhances behavioral based safety within the company.
  • Re-engineers equipment and operational processes to reduce safety risk.



  • Bachelors degree in EHS Management or relevant field and 6 - 8 years experience in a manufacturing safety role, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of EPA, OSHA health and safety guidelines
  • Strong knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Demonstrated experience performing ergonomic studies and resolving ergonomic issues
  • Demonstrated knowledge of regulation and compliance standards for air permitting and liquid waste disposal.
  • Valid CSP qualification in Occupational Health & Safety


  • Proficiency in producing reports and developing relevant policies
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proficiency communicating in written and verbal form with employees across all levels of the organization, with demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.

Physical and Environmental Elements:

  • Frequent exposure to typical engine manufacturing and cleaning environments.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Must be able to travel up to 25 % nationally and internationally
