Production Engineering Technician

Job Summary:

The Production Engineering Technician is responsible for leading prototype build activities for Value Add Engineering through the planning and active build phase. Additional responsibilities include validating design accuracy and completeness, part tracking, delivery to meet build timing, documenting issues, and floor support for pilot and Custom Line builds.

Responsibilities / Essential Functions:

  • Assemble prototype engines.
  • Debug mechanical issues.
  • Install and remove engines from test cells/dynamometers.
  • Perform engine disassembly, inspection, and draft End of Job report.
  • Think critically, question results, and identify ways to improve the workshop and engine design.
  • Work side by side with the Manufacturing and Design Engineering teams.
  • Follow standardized procedures related to diesel engine assembly and test cell operation.
  • Perform incoming inspections on engine components.
  • Looks up and orders parts
  • Manage inventory of parts and supplies.
  • Keep a meticulous and organized work area.
  • Build series engine orders as assigned, in Norcross or in Value Add.
  • Maintain a spirited, open-minded personality and “can-do” attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned



  • 6-8 years of experience with diesel engines.
  • 3-5 years of assembly experience.
  • Experience working in a prototype/R&D environment preferred.
  • Experience in Engine components.
  • Experience operating a test cell preferred.
  • Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs regularly


  • Working knowledge of engines (2-8 cylinder diesel engines, common materials, manufacturing processes).
  • Extensive knowledge of hand and power tools, including inspection/measurement equipment.
  • Professional experience with assembly and/or maintenance of engines, extreme attention to detail.
  • Must have a “delicate” touch with engine components and assembly processes.
  • Ability to create and follow checklists.
  • Software skills: Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word), email.
  • Experience with SAP (Preferred)
  • Desire and ability to constantly learn on the job, multi-task, and frequently update procedures.
  • Ability to self-direct and independently solve problems.
  • Flexible working hours- This position can sometimes require working outside of company’s core hours late afternoon, and weekends.

Physical and Environmental Elements:

Manufacturing/Warehouse environment. Frequent exposure to typical engine manufacturing and cleaning environments. Subject to noise, dust, diesel fuel, oil, high temperatures in the Summer and low temperatures in the Winter. No HVAC system.
